Alright so I'm sure you all saw the Challenge Donna dealt me last night--like things weren't challenging enough! But seriously this was a challenge I totally asked for. I've wanted to be done with my revisions--done meaning I can give it to gamma readers and have only minor minor nitpicky things to deal with later so I can start the query process--and I wanted to finish in December. Lo and behold...it's DECEMBER! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhh!!
So giving me until 11:59PM Jan 1st is quite generous!
And HARD! GAH!!!
If only I was on normal vacation like all the other college professors but I'm working this week, so that means coming straight home and revising until I drop.
In light of this, I decided I totally needed a theme song! In fact I woke up at 5am in need of my theme song (and now that I picked one I had better sleep later tomorrow OMGZZZZZ). I can only guess what you'd all imagine my theme song for challenge week to be...given my penchant for Shakira and really horrible youtube videos---seriously if you're on twitter start a youtube war with me--it's awesome. No really.
So thus comes my theme song and you can make sense of my wacky blog title.
It's a mash up of Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit and Destiny's Child Bootylicious called Smells Like Teen Booty by Soulwax! Ok how awesome is that? Seriously. Glee, please add that to your line up because it would rock.
Want a dose of the awesomeness and what's in my ipod right now? Check it out below.
And here's the awesome performance by inFusion Tribal BellyDance that introduced me to this mash up a few years ago. It's so cute!
Ok so here's the update....
Chapters Revised: 12
Chapters to be revised with CP notes: 3
Total Chapters Remaining: 10
Days Left: 4.5
I know you traitors are hoping to see me do this by the end of the week....
But my vote is here!
Ok try to not get that in your head, and yeah I totally know the Lil Jon Mash up:-)
Now it's CONTEST TIME!
I was hoping to reach 200 followers by 2010 and I'm totally ahead with 205 followers because you guys are AWESOME! Yay you!!! Thanks for following my blog and hanging out with me and being so supportive.
As promised I'm giving away arcs!!!
So I'm giving away6 Arcs in 3 prize packs! 6 ARCS! 3 PRIZE PACKS! WOW!!!
You will be randomly entered to win one of the following arc packages.
1) Wintergirls, Laurie Halse Anderson + The Anatomy of Wings, Karen Foxlee
2) The Summoning, Kelley Armstrong + Prophecy of the Sisters, Michelle Zink
3) Fire, Kristin Cashore + The Stolen One, Suzanne Crowley
Those of you who have entered my contests before know I do things a little untraditionally...
Those of you who are new, here's the run down!
Leave a comment below and tell me the most challenging thing you completed in 2009 and you are entered (you must be a follower).
Want more votes? Bring a friend over to my blog and make sure they tell me you sent them and I'll give you an extra vote! For every friend you send, your name gets entered again. AND if your referral makes a referral than you get more chances from that too. So please get creative and tweet, blog, facebook, beg, bribe...ummm just figure out a way to get more friends over here so you have more chances to win :-)
And..now I'll show you how this works in case what I just said makes no sense.
So Joey follows my blog (and yeah he's kind of a douche and a model, but he loves my blog so we'll forgive him!). And he sees my contest and is like "OOOOOOOOH! Contest!" So he enters by commenting below with his entry of "The most challenging thing I completed in 2009 was perfecting my thoughtful look for my new sock campaign."
1 entry is awarded to Joey!!
But 1 entry isn't good enough for Joey, he's a model, he needs more. So he goes to Patrick.
Joey: Patrick, See that blog? That's Frankie Diane's blog. I want you to follow her and enter her contest.
Patrick: Yeah, sure Sparky.
Joey: Look, I can't win these awesome arcs unless I get more entries.
Patrick: Touching story, but not my problem.
Joey: Would you be willing to make it your problem if I provide compensation?
Patrick: You're going to pay me to follow some chic's blog? Hang on (signs online) Oh screw you're money. Frankie is awesome! She's just too gooooood to be true...
Joey: Ok stop singing!
So now Joey has 2 entries and Patrick has 1.
But Patrick wants more...
Patrick: Kat, follow Frankie's blog and enter her contest.
Kat: Why are you pushing this? What's in it for you?
Patrick: Nothing is in it for me! Just the pleasure of being able to discuss her latest post with you!
Kat: Really? It's not the fact that you can win extra contest entries for her massive arc giveaway?
Patrick: ...
Kat: Ok fine, I'll enter, Frankie's awesome.
Patrick: Kiss me!
So....
Kat has 1 entry
Patrick has 2 (1 for him and 1 for Kat)
Joey has 3 (1 for himself, 1 from Patrick, and 1 from Kat)....because all entries get grandfathered in.
Ok got it? Comment and persuade away and I'm going back to my challenge.
Oh yeah--Contest ends at midnight JAN 15, 2010!!!

Most Challenging thing I've done in 2009: Can we say NaNoWriMo?
ReplyDeleteCurrent Challenge: Writing 20k by January 1st. *headdesk* Can we say "looming failure?"
BOOOOOOOOKKKKKSSSSSSSS.
So what exactly is a #YouTubeWar? Can you explain? I just want to know what I'm getting myself into before I challenge you to one at a date in the future to be determined.
ReplyDeleteThe most challenging thing I did this year was finishing my first draft! Starting it was easy, but the last 5,000-8,000 words was SO hard. And editing is definitely going to be my next challenge!
Wow, I'd have to say the most challenging thing in 2009 (aside from starting and finishing my rough draft, and then editing it which I think everyone is going to say) was starting a blog. I had NO idea how to do one, or how to get followers, and it was kind of like "coming out of the writing closet" a little bit because quite a few people who didn't know I write and/or had never read my writing found it and well, it was bizarre. Plus I ended up in the middle of a blog war, and now have to make a movie out of a story I wrote so yeah--it's been a CHALLENGE. Great contest. Fingers and toes crossed. :)
ReplyDeleteOMG I love that movie that's the funniest post I have read in a long time. The most challenging thing I had to do in 2009 was:
ReplyDeletefinally realizing that the grad program I was in was not right for me, withdrawing from all my class and switching to another grad program.
You have a fun blog and an fun group of followers. Thanks for the videos I watched them and found them entertaining.
ReplyDeleteI am now following - I am a fellow vegan but I do not blog about it when I stumbled here I saw the bee and thought that this might be a blog that was about honey veganism or something like that.
Kindest regards,
Tom Bailey
The most challenging thing? Cooking. Enough said :)
ReplyDeleteNext challenge? To make my cooking taste delicious! :D
Thanks for the ARC contest, and yes I follow!
The most challenging thing I've done this year was...keeping my baby cousin busy. He runs around with all the energy in the world and never stops, my aunt left me in charge, boy was it HARD!
ReplyDeleteI love the question, it really made me think :D
I love the contest!
Most Challenging thing I've done in 2009? Made it through 10th grade in one piece, mostly. Current challenge, finishing one of my WIPs before Jan 30th. That and getting into college, apparently that's kind of important....
ReplyDeleteMost challenging thing I've done in 2009? Move away from home and start life on my own--also, the best thing I did in 2009. :)
ReplyDeleteMy biggest challenge was starting over after 10 years of marriage.
ReplyDeleteI follow.
simplystacieblog at gmail dot com
Holy cow, this has been the year of challenges.
ReplyDelete1. Moved from the UK to the US in what must have been one of the saddest moves of my life.
2. Sent my daughter off to middle school after homeschooling
3. Sent my toddler to preschool for the first time
4. Wrote two novels, the first of which I began writing two weeks before we moved internationally.
(Am I allowed to state more than one? If not, well, lets just ball them all up into one and call it getting through 2009.)
Most serious challenge of 2010? Finding an agent.
Ok...now crossing my fingers hoping I win. By the way, that bootlicious video is hilarious. Truly. Drop dead, foaming at the mouth funny.
Don't enter me (as I already have most of those books) but the hardest thing I did this year...was decide that my work was done and ready to query. I flip-flopped because I didn't want to waste queries on a work not ready (as I'd made that mistake before).
ReplyDeleteFortunately, it all turned out for the best!
Hurrah for ARCs!
ReplyDeleteHmmm. Most challenging thing... I think survived this year, yeah. The whole year was one giant. But I'll narrow it down- I'm getting through this week with fifty dollars. To feed four people, put gas in the car, etc. They don't call me the Budget Queen for nothing.
...Okay, so I call me the Budget Queen, but you can see why.
Most challenging thing in 2009 - trying to sell our house in a dead market.
ReplyDeleteNext challenge - find an agent!
P.S. I have an award for you at my blog! :)
Hmm...most challenging thing I did this year? Probably get an A in my Spanish Composition class. It was crazy difficult and I spent a ridiculous amount of time studying for it!
ReplyDeleteoh how I love 10 Things I Hate About You! awesome!
ReplyDeleteokay...most challenging thing - Frankie this one is hard. My 2008 was a challenging year and I vowed then to make '09 a more laid back year & well, I did. But making it that way was a challenge. My challenge was learning to just go with the flow, understand that life's curves are what make it a beautiful experience and that even though hard days attack us all who we are as we journey through those days & the stronger person we become is what is most important.
Love the contest. Am finally back for an in between holidays update... so glad I travel or seem to be conveniently away from computer when y'all start these things ;o)
Well, the first question is: where do you get all those ARCs? Really. How does one come up with six - no, SIX - ARCs to give away in a blog contest? If I ran a blog contest, I'd give away a Snickers bar or something. But you're offering six ARCs? (Showoff.)
ReplyDeletePlus, I'm not even going to approach the whole "Smells Like Teen Booty" thing. Nope. Not gon' do it. Wouldn't be prudent. At this juncture. (Thousand points of light, etc... Oh, fine. Google it if you're lost. Mock me for my age and my retention of SNL quotes, why don'tcha?)
Anyway, go you with the edits, Frankie. You can do eet! But if you can't, I'm buying a 1.75L of Smirnoff and watching the Clueless reenactment on loop while taking shots and watching "Rolling with my Homies" over and over again. :)
Oh, and, uh... hardest thing I did in 2009? Finally bloody graduating from college. That's all.
ReplyDeleteNew follower here! Your blog is ROFL good. And I was sent here by my lovely sister, Suzette Saxton, who is also a follower. So does that mean I double my chances???!
ReplyDeleteQuerying!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd you are hilarious, Frankie!
The biggest challenge was trying to do the June version of Nano :D
ReplyDeletelesly7ch(at)yahoo(dot)com
I have to agree with Mireyah, NanoWrimo takes the cake.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your revisions!
LOL I think I'll have a tough time beating Joey, Patrick and Kat, but here's the most challenging thing: my husband left me in May, just before midterms began. I was left alone with a hyperactive two-year old and running a house of 5. Thinking of dropping out of college. Do I need to add the part-time job?
ReplyDeleteThen September came. I passed 10 exams on a whim. With Bs and As. Nearly impossible for the stupid Croatian education system.
Never give up. Never surrender :)
Thanks for the contest. You're awesome :)
The most challenging thing I completed in 2009 was a sudden art commission sort of thing my friend requested of me for a special occasion. I had about a few day tops to finish it, and by some miracle I managed to create something half decent, lol.
ReplyDeleteI'd say the most challenging thing I completed in 2009 (which probably isn't close to anyone else's) was realizing my 19 year old cat needed to be put down. The hardest part was actually going through with it. I think that was the hardest thing I ever had to do.
ReplyDeleteSo um yeah...10 Things I Hate About You...One of the best movies EVER.
ReplyDelete(Perfecting this face for my sock campaign... hahahahaha)
Hardest thing I've done it 2009 was trying to find a way to get rid of all this #windinmyhhhhaaaaaiiiiirrrr and let me tell ya, it's been rough!
(And yeah...if you want the REAL hardest thing I've done you'll have to woo me and give me another entry ;) OMG I LOVE being difficult!)
It'll have to be opening a book blog. It's not as easy as I thought, just writing reviews. O.O
ReplyDeleteMost challenging thing in 2009? Restraining myself from buying more books ha ha..but if I had to say something serious, I would say saying good-bye to my cousin that passed away from cancer, he was only 2 years older than me :(
ReplyDeleteGreat contest, btw...I am a new follower referred by Elie @ Ellz Readz.
booknerdd(at)gmail(dot)com
You are FUNNY! I think I shall follow you.
ReplyDelete:D
MZ
PS. Not entering the contest, for obvious reasons.
most challenging thing done in 2009:
ReplyDeletestaying up for 9 straight days and working between 12-14 hours straight.
My gosh, that was HELL for me.
Please include me in your contest --
Anyhoo, I found your contest via ELie @ Ellz Reads :)
Oh. My. God. Did you just post a clip of Lazy Town on your blog? Seriously? That show is the bane of my existence. My kids love it and it makes me want to claw my eyes out.
ReplyDeletemost challenging thing I did this year was suck it up and do my maths and science required cources in school, my hardest topics, and ...passed :) yay me.

I just want to know what I'm getting myself into before I challenge you to one at a date in the future to be determined.
ReplyDeleteHow to make a website
The most challenging thing I've done this year is finish a first draft of a novel. It was my New Year's Resolution but I really had no expectation that I would even actually start so I'm very proud to have not just started, but finished it - even though I know I have SO much more work to do on it!
ReplyDeleteOkay- the most challenging thing I've done this year was start and finish my first novel. Now, when I say finish, I mean first draft.
ReplyDeleteI think you MAY be able to finish revising...however, stop searching youtube and REVISE!!! As much as I love watching the stuff you find, maybe for the next 4 days you should take a break from the blog and focus on Lily and Ryan...besides, I'm dying over here not knowing how it ends...I'm also being a bit selfish because as soon as you finish your WIP, you can finish reading mine ;)
good luck!!!!!!!!!!!
The most challenging thing I completed in 2009 was my degree. It's over! Yay!
ReplyDeletewhatinabox (at) gmail (dot) com
justpeachy36@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteMy biggest challenge in 2009 was beginning a writing career. I do freelance web and print media. As well has book reviewing and other stuff... I love it! Glad I gave it a go!.
Please enter me in the giveaway.
I am a follower.
Ellz Readz sent me.
Most challenging thing...writing scholarship essays, ugh!
ReplyDeleteI love how you explain your rules!
Hey, Frankie! I'm the "other" Frankie from Mireyah's way. It's nice to meet you. She RAVES about you!
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous...
*snort* No. It's all good. Anyway, I just wanted to drop by and say HI!!! So, hi!
And...hmmm...my most challenging accomplishment of 2009...
NOT killing my mother.
No, scratch that. I mean, for real, but no. Scratch that and keep it clean.
Okay. Writing 100,251 words in November bringin my total number of books written in 2009 to 4 and a total 2009 word count of...*give me a minute. I'm doing the math...oh, here we are! 276,564 words written.
Well, plus the revising, but that's too hard to track.
So, that's my greatest 2009 accomplishment. It was great to finally meet you!
The most challenging thing I've done in 2009 is complete my very first manuscript! It was hard and exciting and I lurrrrved it.
ReplyDeleteMost Challenging thing: moved
ReplyDeleteI am a follower.. YOu have a funny blog and I have enjoyed reading.
ReplyDeleteMost challenging thing is surviving the first yr of my retirement.
haha, I can already tell I'm gonna love reading this blog. :D
ReplyDeleteI would have to say the most challenging thing I went through this year was when my mom passed away in March. It was really sudden, and no one really expected it. So it was pretty tough.
Thanks for doing this contest!
echs2007@gmail.com
You are so freaking creative. I love it!!=)
ReplyDeleteSo the most challenging thing I accomplished in 2009 was completed a 8 miles walk/jog run for charity. and I did in in 2 hours. Yay!!! Then I was so pumped I entered 3 more this year and I plan to do them all again 2010 and maybe do more.
I forgot to mention that http://ellzreadz.blogspot.com
ReplyDeletesent me=)

Most challenging thing I did in 2009? Rehab for ACL reconstruction. It was much harder than I thought it would be and I was a competitive swimmer who swam through everything.
ReplyDeleteNext challenge? Coming out of the writer's closet and admitting I have been a closet writer for years. I am planning on starting a blog, but am terrified to do so and finally admit that I love to write. Worse than labour or surgery.
I follow!
Frankly I just get excited for your contests for the part where you explain the rules. I love that you chose 10 things this time!! So funny.
ReplyDeletemy most challenging thing this year? quitting my dream job and moving to the middle of nowhere in the desert. I'm still working on the liking it part....
Thanks!

Well, I love your blog, but I can only see the black and white photos you posted...From Joey down. All the four pictures in the first half of the entry are blank.
ReplyDeleteGot any idea why? Are they in any particular format?

The most challenging thing I've done this year was committing to my writing career. With that I've completed three full length drafts this year, revising one--twice. Next year? Write more. Revise more.
ReplyDeleteI just watched 10 Things again this weekend -- such a fun flick! Great to see Joey here.
ReplyDeleteMost challenging thing I completed in 2010? Writing, revising, revising again and finally getting a 2-book deal with Little Brown!
Most challenging thing I've done this year--- Well, let's see, humm---
ReplyDeletegetting use to having my father-in-law living with us, he's 91 and actually in pretty good health. My last child finally(I have one 34, 27 and 20- you see why I say finally, thought we'd never get them all out of the house)left for college 18 months ago and we had the house pretty much to ourselves for 6 months and it was so great. We stayed up as late as we wanted, sat around in our pj's on the weekend, ate when and where we wanted. You know, kinda of like going off to college ourselves. It was paradise and then we had to go back to being responsible again. Well, we'll survive.
Oops
ReplyDeleteGreat contest, btw...I am a new follower referred by Elie @ Ellz Readz.

Ummm, tough one. Haha. My most challenging thing in 2009 was...
ReplyDeletePhysics class.
How I hate it soooo much. But I'm getting through and I'm doing well! Yay! :)
justeena_25(at)yahoo(dot)Ca
Most challenging thing I did in 2009? Writing a freaking NOVEL!!! (Though it was also the best, most exhilarating thing from my 2009!)
ReplyDeleteMy most challenging thing of 2009 is easy. My first semester of Graduate school. What an ordeal! It was terrible and stressful, but I loved it nevertheless and am going in for round two!
ReplyDeleteMost Challenging thing I've done in 2009? Well, starting my last year in school, I'm going to miss everything and everyone when this ends.
ReplyDeleteNext year I will start university, I'm a little scared, it will be all so new!
The most challenging thing I've completed in 2009? Writing, revising and querying my first novel! It didn't get picked up, but it received some interest, and I'm excited to get the next one out there. The first one is always the hardest!
ReplyDeleteHmm most challenging thing? Getting my t-shirt signed by all Washington Capitals players? THAT was challenging and took my weeks (if not months) of stalking! ;) And my t-shirt looks awesome now! ;)
ReplyDeleteSara
sosarora_11(at)hotmail(dot)com
The most challenging is definitely the Advanced Michigan Math Test {it had a bigger name but I kind of get it jumbled}! Oh my word was that an agonizing test! :(
ReplyDeleteMost challenging thing of 2009 was starting my blog (I'm not copying Shannon!), it was incredibly scary!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe most challenging thing I've done in 2009. I'd have to say moving away from home to go to college. I know that tons of kids move away from home every year to attend school and I adjusted pretty well, but it was still a big change. I think the hardest part has been money-wise. I'm really busy, so everything else kind of fades away, but the stess of being a poor college student is overwhelming. :(
ReplyDeleteAside from that, starting a blog. It has taken A LOT of time, but it is defintely worth it. I've met many amazing readers, bloggers, and authors... and it is all because of a little blog!
Thanks for the awesome contest!
Sara @ The Hiding Spot

The most challenging thing I did in '09 was move. I made the decision, packed and actually moved all in one week! That's actually pretty tough when you have a house full of years worth of accumulated junk, and you do it all Christmas week. :( It made the holiday season feel very short and rushed. Yuck.
ReplyDeleteThe most challenging thing I've done this year is that I made it through the year. I've moved twice, lost my job, and taken in a 3rd stray cat. I can barely get through a week but I do it somehow. Now my big challenge for 2010 is to go get my masters in Library Science. It's going to be a better year, I just know it.
ReplyDeleteMegan and Alex at the BookMac referred me.

The most challenging thing I did in 2009 was telling my mom that I'm not going back to college, but I enrolled in NYC Gotham Writers workshops.
ReplyDeleteEek!
Fun contest!
Most challenging thing of 2009? It would have to be staying focused in school. So frustrating, but I think I did pretty good!
ReplyDeletesteff.annie_x3@hotmail.com
OH MAN, when I first saw this contest, I needed time to think about my answer. In the meantime I wrote a blog post so my friends could enter (a bunch came). But then I saw the post on my blog and realized I FORGOT TO SUBMIT MY ENTRY. Luckily, I made it in time!
ReplyDeleteSo here goes...
The most challenging thing for me in 2009 was learning how to run a business, you know taxes, payroll all the boring stuff. Because I would much rather have my nose in a book!
zenfoxflowerATyahooDOTcom
Elie (Ellz Readz)
I'd have to say the hardest thing I did in 2009 was getting myself in a routine of working out. I'm soooo bad about that.
ReplyDeletethebookcellar@wi.rr.com
So, I'm only going to get the one entry, but I still laughed out loud at your Joey skit. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHardest thing in 2009....well, probably having abdominal surgery with a toddler around for recovery. On the bookish side, I'm pretty challenged in finding time to write as well....sigh.
Thanks,
rae_sunshine4(at)yahoo.com
twoandahalfbooklovers.blogspot.com
2009 was the year of challenges for me. The first being to admit I deserved more and move to getting a divorce. Yeah, okay, moving on to something sounding a lot less like a plea for pity ... I started writing again and even joined NaNoWriMo. As for completed, a kick ass query. Now, to finish the book so I can send out said query.
ReplyDeleteThe most challenging thing I did in 2009 was finish up all of my classes in time to get my bachelors.
ReplyDeletesquiggles87(at)Aol(dot)com
You would think my most challenging thing in 09 would be querying, but no. It was having my first page read in front of a room full of writers while an agent, editor, and pub'd author tore it to pieces.
ReplyDeleteBut its much better now! :)
My most challenging thing I've done in 2009 -- taking care of my kids in between being stuck in the hospital and then recovering from multiple surgeries -- 2009 was not a good year -- sigh.
