You guys know that my love for 10 Things I Hate About You is DEEP! Like religiously deep. That's how much I love this movie. And I really thought nothing else would ever compare. But then I saw Easy A. Twice. And I am in love!
This movie has it all. Awesome main character with perfect comedic timing, cute boys, HILARIOUS DADS, awesome quotes, and....a totally random dance number!
And so I've decided we need a throwdown!
EASY A VS 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU
Olive's Knocking on Wood versus Heath's Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You
I do love that Olive can totally sing and pull off a burlesque show at her high school's basket ball game. But NOTHING I repeat, Nothing can ever really top this!
The WINNER: 10 Things I Hate About You
Bonus Round: Easy A and Pocketful of Sunshine!!!! AKA Best. Clip. Ever.
Final Verdict: 2 awesome song sequences versus 1....aaaah. I say TIE!
Round 2: Battle of the Dads
Dr. Stratford brought us such gems like, "I'm down, I got the 411 and you are not going out and getting jiggy with some boy, I don't care how dope his ride is."
Also, "My insurance does not cover PMS!"
And this peace of awesome!
Dr. Stratford: This morning, I delivered a set of twins to a fifteen-year-old girl, do you know what she said to me?
Bianca: "I'm a crack-whore who should have made my skeazy boyfriend wear a condom"?
Dr. Stratford: Close, but no. She said, "I should have listened to my father".
Bianca: She did not.
Dr. Stratford: Well, that's what should would have said if she wasn't so doped up!
Oh, Dr. Stratford, I've quoted you for years, but there is just something about Stanley Tucci's timing in Easy A and the fact that I find him disturbingly attractive. I mean, look!
The Winner: EASY A!
Round 3: Battle of the Quotes
10 Things:
Chastity: I know you can overwhelmed and you can be underwhelmed, but can you ever just be whelmed?
Bianca: I think you can in Europe.
Easy A:
Marianne: There's a higher power that will judge you for your indecency.
Olive: Tom Cruise? Hey! Did I just get saved?
10 Things:
Bianca: There's a difference between like and love. Because I like my sketchers, but I Love my Prada backpack.
Chastity: But I love my sketchers.
Bianca: That's because you don't have a Prada back pack.
Chastity: Oooh.
Easy A:
Olive's Mom: No judgement, but you kinda look like a stripper.
Olive: Mom!
Olive's Dad: A high end stripper, for governors or athletes
Winner: TEN THINGS! Sorry, but nothing can outquote that movie.
The Score:
Easy A: 2
10 Things: 2
AAAAAAAAAH! A Tie!
Ok give it to me. Who saw Easy A? Who Loves 10 Things and who really wins the throw down?

THIS IS SO HARD!!! I didn't realize there was another fan out there like me... I mean I LIKE LOVE 10 Things I hate about you... like seriously love...
ReplyDeleteBUT!
Easy A, knocked my socks off. I mean it rocked my world, and talk about a Pocket Full of Sunshine, I heard it on the radio today and started busting out laughing thinking about the movie. Olive's parents were the funniest I've seen in years! Serious case of awesome.
For now I'd have to say Easy A: 3, 10 Things: 1
Tom Cruise comment put me over the edge... still I can go with too close to call!
Yes! Jen, I knew I loved you and this is why! I can't stop watching the Pocketful of Sunshine clip! TOO epic! But so much of Easy A is hilarious to watch--Woodchuck Todd!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And 10 Things is easier to quote. All I know is I *might* see it a 3rd time and its the first movie I've wanted to own on DVD in like a year!!!!
ReplyDeleteAlso, Olive's parents WIN no matter what they do or who they are up against, they are made of win!
I just dragged hubby to this last night. I really liked it. I thought the dialogue was great. Fresh & snappy...without feeling forced like so many of these movies are.
ReplyDeleteOoops...forgot my vote. I give it to Easy A, but by a narrow margin.
ReplyDeleteI KNOW! I TOTALLY THOUGHT OF YOU WHEN I SAW THIS MOVIE!
ReplyDeleteI think that 10 Things wins, only by the narrowest margin of having the more developed love story element, for which I am a sucker. BUT if they had expanded upon that element in Easy A, there would have been NO CHOOSING BETWEEN THEM!
Easy A was ABSOLUTELY a return to the style of 10 Things or revamping a classic for the movies, and I can only hope that it begins a revisiting of the trend in this direction of awesome!
10 Things is a great movie! I haven't seen Easy A yet, but I've been looking forward to it since I saw the trailer in the spring. I'm glad it's doing well!
ReplyDeleteActually, my favorite teen movie is Bring It On!
Wait a minute... hold the phone, you've already seen it twice??! I thought I was the only one that had done that! Me and my husband saw it twice because we laughed so hard, but I'm with you, I'd love to see it a third time and I will definitely own it!
ReplyDeleteI agree 10 thing is more quoteable, then again it was a movie we've grown up with for years, so whose to say in 10 yrs we aren't saying the same thing about Easy A!!!
I wasn't a huge "Easy A" fan, but the "Pocketful of Sunshine" part was hysterical - definitely my favorite part. And her parents were the funniest characters IMHO. When they were trying to guess what word she said at school, I was cracking up. Nothing can top the teen movie amazingness of "10 Things I Hate About You," though. It's just impossible.
ReplyDeleteEasy A was a great movie, but NOTHING can EVER top 10 Things for teen movie-awesomeness. I think 10 Things was just funnier (the ENTIRE cast was hilarious) and brimming with wit - like you said, it cannot be out-quoted.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, upon rewatching 10 Things recently, we realized (and the commentary confirmed it) that they got away with A LOT of stuff for a PG-13 movie that wouldn't fly at PG-13 today. So 10 Things had that advantage (in terms of some of the jokes and language) over Easy A.
So yeah, Easy A was good, but 10 Things is CLASSIC. :)
10 Things I Hate About You is tied for my favorite teen movie of all time, so I doubt Easy A stands a chance. I haven't seen it yet, but it looks pretty good.
ReplyDeleteBTW - the Heath Ledger song/dance on the bleachers is the best thing ever.
10 Things will always get my vote, because really, Taming of the Shrew in HS? You just can't beat that.
ReplyDeleteI love Dr. Stratford!!
ReplyDelete(But seriously, Stanley Tucci....how cute is he?? I think I'm a little swoony here....)
Battle of the Dads is EPIC! who cares which one wins? They are both awesome!
Um...I haven't seen either one.
ReplyDelete*blushes*
*clicks over to netflix to order them*
I'll let you know my vote later.
I LOVE BOTH!!!
ReplyDelete10 Things will always have the best music number (you're so right), but Easy A was just brilliant. Even the hubs didn't hate it. I love Olive's parents, and how Olive solved her OWN problems.

Easy A takes a few sly digs at 10 Things, in case you noticed. That line about not rapping poetry in class, or the comment on Sylvia Plath...
ReplyDeletePersonally, I found 10 Things to be a bit stronger, but Easy A has more wicked dialogue than any teen movie I can recall, and Olive's parents rank alongside Juno's in terms of sheer coolness.
