Updatey-ness

I've been trying to blog for days. But life keeps happening.

Anyway, in case you didn't know, I saw The Hunger Games. Twice! AND, I wrote a bunch of things about it over at the First Novels Club. So you should totally check it out!

The first time I saw it, I went to a midnight showing with my critique partner, Donna. So of course I had to be super dorky about it and take embarrassing pictures.
Like a picture of Donna holding ALL the tickets!

And the fact that ALL the screens were showing The Hunger Games

And a shot of me in front of the movie poster. Seriously, I needed to be stopped.
But in case you can't tell from the sheer dorkiness of this post, and you haven't read my love-fest over at the FNC I LOVED it. Also, I'd really like to have Lenny Kravitz's babies.

Anyway, in between obsessing over The Hunger Games, I had a belly dance performance.
This is either a "come hither" gesture, or I'm getting ready to pose in "thinking man" as I contemplate my next move. Your guess.

And last but not least, the very first meeting of the Philly Book Club came together. In case you missed, I have banded together with local YA author K.M. Walton (who is awesome and wrote CRACKED) to create a YA based book club. And for our first ever meeting, we went to the indie bookstore of awesome, Chester County Books and Music where we discussed John Green's THE FAULT IN OUR STARS.

Do not adjust your glasses. I am actually that tall! Me, Joanne Fritz, Amy Garvey (COLD KISS), Kelly Lyman, Katie, K.M. Walton (CRACKED), Ilene Wong, and Christine Danek.

We had such a good time and I'm already excited for next month. We're reading The Scorpio Races. If you want to keep up with events btw, you can always check out my handy EVENTS page. You can also let me know if you need to be added to the email list.

And while I'm just including all sorts of random updates...today is Tuesday (OMG...really?) I also have a new  PHOTO page.

Fun huh?

Ok you guys. Update me on what's happening with you. Who LOVED The Hunger Games? Who didn't know today was Tuesday? Who is shocked I didn't take more dorky photos? Who has no idea why they're reading this post? These are things I want to know.

  1. Oh man, that moment, right before the Games begin, and Cinna puts his finger to his lips, indicating for Katniss to keep the pin a secret? I almost swooned, and I'm a dude.

  2. LOL, MATT--BWahahahahaha! Okay you saw it twice and I am only going to see it this Friday (my two BF's made me wait--both read because they love me like that and read all YA books which is so cool)!! I shall report back!

  3. LOL Matt!
I gave the movie a B+. Casting and acting was FANTASTIC, i just felt, through no fault of the movie people, that it's hard to capture all the inner workings of Katniss's conflict.
Also (BOOK SPOILER ALERT) wasn't Peeta supposed to lose his leg at the end of this one?

    1. Oh I definitely remember being a bit miffed the first time that Peeta didn't lose his leg---I mean, not that I want him to, but yeah it was definitely missing (I didn't notice as much the 2nd time because I knew what to expect). The finale of the games was def more mild compared to the book and I was expecting Katniss to be screaming Peeta's name and banging on the door to the surgery room after he was whisked away for a new leg. Ah well...in the end, still made of win!

  5. Loved the movie! I think we're all a bit critical of it just because we love the book SO MUCH, but overall I thought it was FABULOUS! And I'm going to go ahead and say Stanley Tucci as Ceasar Flickerman was my favorite. He was so good!

And your photos are totally NOT THAT dorky. You should of seen me in all my social awkwardness glory. (seriously, I think I really freaked out the other people at the theatre)

I hope you enjoyed The Fault In Our Stars and didn't have a total meltdown like I did. Have a great week! ;)

    1. Oh yeah I LOVED Stanley Tucci as Ceasar! I somehow kept forgetting him. I kind of just associate him so strongly with the Capitol. But YES, I mean, Stanley Tucci kills anything he's in. Thanks for thinking my pictures aren't dorky, Meredith:) And I LOVED TFIOS. I didn't have a meltdown, but I feel like I should have...so I'm going to reread. Have a great week too!

    1. OMG! 500 people! Field trip? I need to go back to high school and go to YOURS! Can I sit at your lunch table if I do?

  7. You could sit at my lunch table if I had a lunch. I have 3 days of chorus, a day of study hall, and a day of chem lab.

    1. Oh no a crazy schedule! I remember not always having lunch my senior year. At least only a few months to go!

  8. Its funny. I LOVED the books and I would give my left ear to meet Peeta. (Why my left ear? Well I'd really like both my hands and my legs, thanks) But I wasn't in love with the movie as I had hoped. I felt the ominious presence of the Capitol wasn't fully there (I am hoping they make up for this in book 2) and I was disappointed that there was no real Capitol-is-scary/Katniss-is-clueless stuff going on, and it definitely wasn't clear that Katniss was faking in the arena/Peeta wasn't. The Katniss was clear a little but not Peeta. And the mutts... Sigh. When I read the book I literally had a panic attack when they realized it was the tribute's eyes. But in the movie? Scary yes but not nearly enough. I also felt like things were rushed and we didn't really get to know characters except maybe Rue, Katniss and Prim, and a little bit of Peeta. I really look forward to CF the movie despite the issues I had with this. Also...Stanley Tucci as Caesar. Basically he could just narrate the whole movie and I'd be perfectly okay with that :-P
Thanks for stopping by the blog Frankie and I'm off to read your review of HG at First Novels.

    1. I totally see what you're saying. I thought some things were a bit fast too, but I think I was just willing to accept that it's a movie, things always feel too fast, especially one with so many details and scenes. The mutations were definitely not scary enough, but they didn't bother me. I was more concerned with things like Gale lifting Katniss onto the stage at the reaping, and Peeta losing his leg:)

    2. Wait...Peeta lost his leg in this book? Its been a way since I read it (2008) and CF even longer because I read an ARC, etc. lol... Guess I need to re-read! I do want to see the movie again because my friend and I got there late and we had front row seats (good for "being in the arena", bad for my neck) :-)

    3. Yes! I don't remember the exact details--but the finale was much more intense than the movie. I think one of the mutations was biting at it and ripping into him as they were being lifted up into the hover and then they rushed him into surgery and Katniss was screaming his name and banging on his window and then at the Caesar exit interview she found out he had a new leg and rushed to touch it in concern--which only added to making their love story believable. I noticed the book-to-movie changes less the second time because I knew what to expect and def enjoyed it more although I want to reread the books now!
