In which I try to tell you things but mostly live-blog about customers with Fifty Shades of Grey

What's happening this weekend?

ALL the things are happening this weekend!

We have Philly Lit Night!

We have Philly Book Club!

Hey! We even have a Philly Belly Dance Show!

So pretty much I have something for everyone.

Also I feel I should note that as I write this, I'm sitting by the bestseller's section in Barnes and Noble and every 10 minutes, like clockwork, someone walks by and picks up Fifty Shades of Grey. One woman grabbed all three books in the series at once!

I know you needed to know that!

Anyway here's the agenda for all you locals (or non-locals who want to make a big trip--which you should because here in Philly we are SUPER fun).

Heee...some dude just walked by and plucked the book off the shelf without looking and sped away. Clearly a planned  operation.

And...another woman did the three book grab!

Ok back to events!

Saturday:

Philly Lit Night: Saturday, April 21, 2012, 4PM, Rittenhouse Square Barnes and Noble followed by The Irish Pub.

Belly Dance Performance: Saturday, April 21, 2012, 9PM. The Fig Cafe and Hookah Lounger. Jenkintown, PA.

Sunday:

Philly Book Club: Sunday, April 22, 2012, 4:30PM, Chester County Books and Music
Book Choice: THE SCORPIO RACES, Maggie Stiefvater

As always you can check out my EVENTS tab.

And to end this...we have a woman pretending to be very interested in another bestselling novel. But...I know why she's really stalking the shelf.

  1. heard a lot of negative and positive things about it. I heard it's basically twilight fanfic?

    Yeahh, probably not for me.
But I LOLed when you told me people were sneaking away with copies :D
    Have you read it?

    1. I've heard the same. I haven't read it yet, but I am fascinated by the hoopla surrounding it, so I probably will pick it up at some point.

  2. I just picked up FIFTY and read 100 pgs of it before giving up. It is totes fan fic...and totes written the same way. Sadly that editor at Random House didn't do much it seems... Sigh.

i also the other day was in my B&N and yelling about how I'd read the book and it was just FF and ugh how did this get published and....of course the stand is right next to the customer service so all of the employees were giving me funny looks. WHOOPPPPSSS

    1. Rachel, yeah it is fan fic right? It's Edward and Bella fanfic with the names changed? Since it was originally self-published, I don't know what happens with the editor when a pub house takes it. I kind of imagine not a lot of changes are made because it's already been read a certain way--but not my area of expertise so I don't know. That is funny though about being at B&N and ranting:)

    2. Frankie - it is fan fiction but she changed the names and little things to make it not. It seems that when RH took 50SoG on, they just published it as is. Its disappointing because the writing isn't so great and I think with a push, it could be. The book wasn't my thing - an 100-page try - but I gave it my best shot.

  3. We keep ours stacked at the info desk so that we don't have to go anywhere when everyone asks for it. When there's a lull we take turns reading passages out loud and trying not to scare the customers laughing too hard. guh, those books. The best are the people looking for it who have NO IDEA what it is, but someone told them to read it. Depending on our mood, we tell them or we don't. Sometimes we try to talk them out of it. #whatpassesasfunforBNstaff

    1. Yes, at the one I go to they have it in the Bestsellers section, at the info desk and in romance. LOL! I imagine A LOT of people go in not knowing at all what it is. Heh--all this talk about it makes me want to read now just so I can know what I'm talking about--but the response is very funny so far and fascinating.

  4. I read the first couple of pages and it wasn't my thing. I think with that one it's all hype, but who am I to judge. Hoping to make to Philly Lit, but I will be at Philly book club.
    Can't wait to see ya.
