Man I love drafting! It works your brain in a way that is just so different from all the other ways you make your brain work. And it's a LOT of work. But the best side effect to this condition is you have SO many ideas!
Which is good. Because I'm just starting to crawl my way out of the murky middle and get this adventure to the point where ALL the plot lines can converge together and things can explode, and revelations can be made and sacrifices...well, sacrifices can be sacrificed.
Anyway, along with all of this whirring, I am still feeling like I want to change the name of my MC.
AGAIN.
Actually...I don't want to say, but anyone who wants to spend enough time reading through the week's comments can probably figure it out. Because the more I think about one name (along with the mother's profession) the more I think it fits.
And hey! Name changing worked wonders the other day. So perhaps it will work even better when I try it again.
Alas, I don't think I'll get much writing done in the next few days. I'm traveling out of town for a wedding (I did that last weekend too!).
But the good news is I am 37,000 words in. Also...these days away from writing (though painful) are really great. They recharge me and inspire me in ways I can't always see right away.
Last night...I wrote a scene out of nowhere that was totally inspired by something that happened to me last weekend at the wedding. And I had SO much fun writing it (less living it). So I'm off!
Just hope these ideas keep whirring!

ReplyDeleteI love a good wedding! And two in a row, how fun.
ReplyDeleteRecently, I had to put my WIP in a time out. Taking some time off has really helped me gain new insights and ideas. Before that, I was in a total stall.
Have fun this weekend. Hope something great happens to inspire you Frankie!
Uh-oh, hope you pull your WIP out of time-out soon. Sounds like it was being bad. I had a lot of fun! Right now I'm kind of too tired to feel inspired, but maybe one more night of sleep will do the trick. Thank you!!
DeleteI feel the same way. I am sometimes terrified when I don't know what's coming next, or when the central conflict isn't yet clear (but the initiating incident is), but if I trust myself it usually works out.
ReplyDeleteUSUALLY.
Heh--yes---usually is the key word!! But the trust thing is pretty safe.
DeleteI get that when I'm drafting too. And I always wonder if I wrote a particular chapter on a different day if it would turn out way different because my experiences that day were so different. I suspect it would.
ReplyDeleteOh yes--it's such an interesting thought how many directions a story can take just based on your mood and what day it is and what happened the day before. Such a neat thought.
DeleteI love weddings! And if you want to change a name again, I say go for it. Why not?
ReplyDeleteHehe--guess what. I DID! :)
