Hello Fall

Remember that one time when it was really hot that one day and then the next day it was freezing and your toes were cold and basically said, "I refuse to leave the house unless I'm in boots"?

No? OK, maybe I'm the only one with chatty toes, but beside the point, it's fall!

And you know what that means!

Pumpkins. Are. Everywhere.
And it's time to knit cozy things!
And write with warm drinks!

I've set myself a deadline to finish my outline by October 1st! And I will start writing my new WIP then.

So far, I've outlined 8 chapters and my outline is already 34 (single spaced) pages long. I'm doing this new thing where I kind of am writing as I outline. I've been referring to it as plotlining--which doesn't really describe what I'm doing, but it sounds cool. Basically it's going to be either the world's longest outline, or a miniature almost novella-version of my book.

The benefit of this is I'm able to edit plots and work out kinks as I go and see how everything works without actually writing the whole book. I'm very much the sort of person who needs to write out something before I can tell if it will work, which means I often have a lot of revision work to do. But this time..not so much. I'm working out my book's issues in real time.

Since I'm on chapter 9 of my outline/novella/plotline/thing...I have A LOT of work to do! But I have my favorite season here to back me up.

Overly gratuitous boot scene
How's everyone else enjoying the season? How are you all doing with your current projects?

  1. I love fall! *sigh*

    And boots. And pumpkins.

Honestly, there's not much about fall I don't like. ;)

    Good luck with the outlining!

  2. I wish for a normal summer! I want to wear dresses all year long- fall is a bit cool for me, and I'm not ready to start switching out my wardrobe yet. I do love pumpkins, Halloween, apple cider, and apple picking though.

    Good luck with your plotlining.

  3. I'm soooooo excited about fall. Just bought some more over-the-knee socks and my sister just texted me pictures of my nephew in the pumpkin hat I knit him! It's the absolutely best season ever.

I'm really curious to see how your plotlining works out. I'm doing the query-and-partial synopsis before this current WIP and it's mostly working, but I'm always up to try other plantser-friendly styles.

And we totally have to do a philly-lit-knit night!

    1. I need more over the knee socks in my life. I'm impressed you can knit a hat. I have one hidden talent:scarves.

A few people have been asking for more details on plotlining so I think I'll do a blog post to shed some light on the process. Maybe it'll be helpful.

      We can TOTALLY do philly-lit-knit-night!

    2. Baby hats are freakishly easy and fast... they put scarves to shame in the "I need a simple knit that looks cooler than it is" category.

I hope I'll be able to make it to the next lit (maybe knit) night!!!!!

  4. Oh I like fall. I could skip over winter, though. Good luck with your plotlining.

    1. No, we can't skip winter! I love winter! I just don't like when it overstays its welcome.

  5. I LOVE fall. And winter. And spring. And the beginning of summer. Um, I love all the season, haha. ;) Writing wise...So I have this Revise and Resubmit and I revised 15 drafts and I'm on the month 7 of said R+R, and nooow I just decided to rewrite my entire novel. Yeah. Ha. Ha ha ha ha ha. Good luck with your plotlining - dude what a cool word!!!! Hope your novel is going well, smoothly and less painstaking at the end with all the revisions. Happy Pumpkin flavor season, Frankie :-)

    1. OMG, you poor thing. I hope you're not in revision fatigue--that's what Laura calls it when she starts to feel I've been immersed in a project too long and need a break. Good luck with your revisions and the R+R!

  6. I love that your toes talk to you! Mine say they still want to stay in flip flops, despite the fact that it's likely to snow in Alaska in a couple of weeks.

Good luck with your outline and writing!
